Shellie Creson began her new duties as chief auditor for Fifth Third Bancorp on Aug. 28. She replaces Bob Shaffer, who was named chief human resources officer in February. Shaffer had been auditor since 2007.
Creson was executive vice president and deputy director of audit at Regions Financial, Birmingham, Ala. While there, she spearheaded a strategic transformation which improved performance and advance regulatory relationships. “Shellie is a key addition to the executive leadership team at Fifth Third,” said Greg Carmichael, president and CEO. “In addition to being a talented auditor, she has a passion for continuous improvement and open communication. Her experience and commitment to operational excellence make her a great fit for Fifth Third.”
Creson is a licensed certified public accountant and a certified internal auditor. Out of the nearly 50,000 people who took the internal auditor exam in 2016, Creson was in the top 65 and received a certificate of honor from the Institute of Internal Auditors, North America.
She has a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Rhodes College, Memphis, Tenn.
